How Kerala bumper lotteries work

Bumper lotteries are special draws announced a few weeks before major Kerala festivals and seasons. Unlike the ₹50 weekly tickets, bumper tickets cost between ₹250 and ₹500, sales run for a month or more across all 14 districts, and the prize pool is far larger. The Thiruvonam Bumper drawn around Onam is the biggest of the year, with a first prize that has reached ₹25 crore, followed by the Christmas New Year Bumper at ₹20 crore. Vishu, Summer, Monsoon and Pooja bumpers carry first prizes of ₹10 crore to ₹12 crore.

A bumper result has more tiers than a weekly draw. Besides the single first prize there are usually several second and third prizes, one per series, consolation prizes for the first-prize number in the other series, and ending prizes that may use four, five or six digits. The lowest bumper prize is typically ₹300 to ₹500. Each result page lists every tier and links to the department's PDF.

Bumper draws are held at Gorky Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, usually at 2:00 PM, and the result is published here the same afternoon. Use the ticket checker and pick the bumper draw to check a ticket against every tier at once.

Claiming a bumper prize

Prizes up to ₹5,000 are paid by any lottery agent. Larger bumper prizes are claimed within 90 days at a District Lottery Office, a nationalised bank or, for the biggest prizes, the Directorate of State Lotteries in Thiruvananthapuram, with the signed ticket, a claim form, photographs, PAN and Aadhaar copies and bank details. Tax of 30% plus surcharge and cess is deducted at source, and a 10% agent commission applies to prizes above ₹5,000. Winners of crore-level prizes are advised to contact the Directorate directly.
